The World Earth Day 2017 ‑ Environmental and Climate Literacy Earth is the planet where life is possible. So, it is very necessary to maintain the natural assets of the earth in order to continue the life on the earth. Therefore, it is important to make people aware about Environment and Climate. In other words, it is essential for public to be literate about the environment and climate. The 22 nd of April has been marked as an Earth Day. First time in the year 1970, the world earth day was celebrated. Various steps have been taken by the government of India towards the safety of earth by implementing the variety of legal rules. A group of environmental leaders organize various events and campaigns to celebrate the earth day. There are reports with alarming evidence of climate change, which can affect food security in India, have pushed the need for climate literacy to the forefront. The department of biotechnology (DBT) is undertakes, various applied work, courses, teachings, trainings, awards and fellowships to recognized the young, deprived and unemployed as well talented people in the arena of applied studies and research as well. DBT invites nominations for National Bioscience Awards for Career Development: to be given to scientists who are currently engaged in basic and applied research in biosciences & biotechnology including biological, agricultural, medical, and environmental sciences and have made outstanding contributions in research with potential for application/ product and technology development. Each Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- alongwith project research grant of Rs.9,00,000/-. To recognize outstanding contributions of young scientists below 45 years of age in basic and applied research in the areas of biosciences and biotechnology including agricultural, biomedical and environmental sciences with potential for application

DBT has undertaken multiple initiatives for teaching & training in biotech education -           Alpana Saha Rapid fire: 1.       DBT supported teaching programmes have consistently performed well 2.       The post graduate teaching programmes were initiated by DBT in 1985 3.       Star College Scheme is a scheme initiated by DBT to nurture excellence in science education 4.       Under star college program: ·          Ninety-two colleges supported ·          Ten colleges accorded star status ·          More than 1600 personnel trained under UG, PG training courses ·          More than 2000 candidates provided industrial training under Biotech Industrial Training Programme The Department is implementing post graduate teaching programme, short-term training courses for upgradation of skills of mid-career scientists and faculty engaged in teaching and R&D, industrial training of students fellowship for doctoral and post-doctoral research training in fr
