Comparative Study of Eutrophication of Two Urban Ponds and Suggestive Restoration Measures

Alpana Saha Sub-Editor (DBT Communication Cell) Vigyan Prasar, C-24, Qutub Institutional Area, New Delhi ‑ 110016 E-mail: alpanarim@gmail.com , alpana@vigyanprasar.gov.in Abstract Water pollution means when physical, chemical and/or biological characteristics or quality of water body becomes harmful to human for domestic needs or aquatic life or to a balanced functioning of the water ecosystem. When sewage and organic wastes are broken down, inorganic nutrients enrich the water in the water body. The problem of excessive nutrient load in water bodies is called eutrophication. To know about pollution and eutrophication level of inland stagnant water bodies in India in my study I have taken the comparative study of two ponds of Bhagalpur . The names of the two ponds are Mukhra pond and Lalbagh pond respectively. In eutrophic water body constant decomposition of blooms, lead to oxygen depletion in water. Remembering Sundara Sastri Satyamurti

Image
Sundara Sastri Satyamurti, an Indian independence activist and leading Congress politician of Madras Presidency, was born on 19 August 1887 in Thirumayam (Pudukkottai) in present-day Tamil Nadu. Satyamurti completed his college education from the renowned Madras Christian College and later worked as a lawyer. He was attracted to the national movement from an early age and joined the Indian National Congress. He became known for his great oratory skills. In 1919, he was chosen by the Congress as its representative to Britain to protest the Rowlatt Act and the Montagu-Chelmsford reforms that were unpopular within India. Interestingly, he wrote for The Hindu when he was in London as the newspaper’s correspondent had gone on leave. Committed to constitutional ways, he opposed many Congress leaders’ view that Indians should boycott the colonial legislature. Satyamurti, along with senior Congress leaders like C.R. Das and Motilal Nehru, were Swarajists: they were in ...

Betrayal's Silent Weight on Lonely Hearts

The body in the bed is just a shape of stone, A warmth I once called home, now I am alone. The echo of a promise in the space between our sheets, A language of forgetting in these solitary streets. You trace the patterned lies upon my patient skin, A script I couldn't read, a game I couldn't win. Each "I am fine" you uttered, a brick within a wall, I watch the silent building of my solitary fall. The cruelty is the normal, the coffee cup, the kiss, The meticulous architecture of such calculated bliss . You are a careful craftsman of the hollow and the deep, A secret you are keeping even in your sleep. This is not a shattering, a single, bloody break, But the slow and steady weathering, an endless, dull heartache . To hold the hand that holds the knife, a most peculiar art, To be so desperately lonely with your own heart pressed against his heart. Alpana Saha 19TH November 2025💔
